This track section originally built and operated by the B&O Railroad in the 1850’s has not seen rail traffic for 30 plus years. OSCR personnel and equipment have taken on this difficult and complicated ¾ mile project which includes extensive tree and vegetation removal, complete tie replacement, turnout and spur construction, reconstruction of the Salt Creek bridge, drainage improvements, a crossing replacement, ballast placement, lining, tamping, and regulating.
The resulting project will enable Bellisio Foods to receive inbound food ingredients directly to the plant. Bellisio Foods is the largest employer in Jackson County, OH with 1,300 plus employees. Bellisio produces frozen food entrees such as Michellini’s, Boston Market, & Chilli’s entrees.
The strategic importance of the project to this area is illustrated by the funding participants in the effort which include the Appalachian Regional Commission, the Ohio Rail Development Commission, the City of Jackson, and the OSCR. The project is scheduled for completion in July, 2018.
